Zohaib Hassan took over the IT coordination of the German Biobank Node (GBN) in August. In close cooperation with the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, he is working on the expansion of the IT network within the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) and the connection to the European biobank network BBMRI-ERIC. In the EU project 'EvolveBBMRI', in which the GBN is significantly involved, he is in charge of the IT work package 'Acceleration of datafication of biobanks and biomolecular resources to enable reproducible advanced medical research'.
Zohaib Hassan holds a degree in Computer Science and has many years of experience in the IT sector, with a unique blend of research and industry experience, specialising in product management, software development, Scrum, and agile methodologies. In the research domain, he has worked with renowned institutes such as the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS, where he focused on developing open-source software solutions. He has also worked for leading companies such as Deloitte, where he played a key role in developing a tool to analyse financial data. With his broad expertise and experience in both academic and corporate environments, he is a new asset to the GBN team.
